Hey everyone, Adrian Lee here from Adrian Video Image! I'm going to give you a step-by-step guide on how I create the mind-blowing "building grow" effect using CapCut, right on my phone.

Step 1: Shoot Your Footage

  • Sky: Capture a video of the sky with some movement, like clouds drifting. This will add depth and realism to the final effect.
  • Building: Film yourself together with the building you want to grow. Start with the building fully in the frame. Try to keep your movement as steady as possible.

Step 2: Edit in CapCut

  1. Import and Arrange: Open CapCut and create a new project. Add the sky footage first, then the building footage to the timeline.
  2. Crop (Optional): If needed, crop the sky footage to focus on the area you want.
  3. Overlay: Select the building clip and apply the "Overlay" function. Drag it to align with the beginning of the sky footage.
  4. Duplicate: Duplicate the overlayed building clip and place the duplicate below the original.
  5. Cutout (Original): Select the original (top) building clip and apply the "Remove Background" effect. Choose "Custom Removal" and use the "Brush" tool to carefully paint over the building you want to grow. This will isolate it from the background.
  6. Cutout (Duplicate): Select the duplicate (bottom) building clip and again use the "Custom Removal" and "Brush" tool to paint over everything except the building you want to grow. This will remove the other elements in the scene, leaving just the sky and the isolated building.

Step 3: Create the "Grow" Effect

  1. Lower the Building: Select the original (top) building clip and drag the building down in the preview panel until the building is completely hidden.
  2. Keyframes: Move the playhead to the point where you want the building to start growing. Tap the building clip and add a keyframe.
  3. Grow: Move the playhead forward a bit and drag the building upwards until it reaches its full height. This will create the illusion of the building growing from the ground up.

Step 4: Add Sound (Optional)

  • Sound Effect: To make the effect even more realistic, add a sound effect. Go to "Audio," select "Sound Effects," and search for "rocks". Choose the sound that best fits your video.

Pro Tip: If you have CapCut Pro, you can use the "Quick Brush" tool in the "Remove Background" effect for faster and more precise cutouts.
