How to earn money from YouTube ads in 2021?

  • First you must be accepted into the YouTube Partner Program. 
  • Next, understand how YouTube Ads work. 
  • Then understand how creators, viewers and advertisers work together. 

Understanding the 3 key players 

  • There are 3 key players - Creators, viewers, and advertisers.  
    • Creators publish videos and build an audience
    • Advertisers pay for ads to reach the audience
    • Viewers watch your video with the ads and you get paid 
  • We are of course the creators, if you are reading this.

How ads work on YouTube

  • Creators can choose to turn on or off the ads
    • Creators can choose the type of ads served 
    • Creators cannot select the ads being served. It is automatically selected. 
    • Creators cannot turn on ads if the video does not meet the advertiser-friendly guidelines 
  • We want to turn on every ad available to maximize our revenue.

Types of ads

  • There are 6 types of ads. 
    • Display ads - These appear to the right of your video and above the video suggestions list. 
    • Overlay ads - These are the semi-transparent banner ads that appear on the lower 20% portion of your video. 
    • Bumper ads - These are non-skippable video ads that must be watched before your video can be viewed and last 6 seconds or less. 
    • Non-skippable Ads - These are video ads inserted before, during, or after your video and can last up to 20 seconds in length.
    • Skippable ads - These are video ads inserted before, during, or after your video and can last up to 3 minutes, but are skippable after 5 seconds.
    • Mid-roll ads - These are video ads served during your videos that are longer than 8 minutes. Creators can choose to let the ads interupt anywhere automatically, or choose exactly where the ads should appear.

  • There is no exact answer, but it is known that if the viewer skips a skippable ad within 30 seconds, the creator will not earn anything.
  • On a side note, a viewer has to click on the display ad and the overlay ad, so that the creator can earn something.

  • Views are increasing. Coming from Tiktok and VL. Next will be from YouTube. 
  • Replace VL links with gumroad links on YouTube. 
  • Gumroad is faster than Aweber when targeting paid or free followers. 
  • Next. Transfer DaVinci resolve opt-in box to gumroad
  • Eventually, cancel Aweber US$179/year (S$250) subscription before renewal on Dec 2021.

OBS Live-streaming - Windows PC Pre Setup Checklist for training sessions

  • Run Ccleaner. 
    • Clean up the memory. 
    • Remove unnecessary startup programs. 
  • Quit all unnecessary programs in the taskbar 
  • Reduce the video bit-rate on OBS to 2500kbps from the default 6000 kbps... And output resolution to 720p.
  • Leave OBS streaming on throughout separate sessions... Stop streaming only at Facebook Producer Live after each session.  
  • The last thing to activate is SCRCPY... After the slides, OBS, and Facebook live.
